JANUARY 18, 2011

Country music in the Kansas City area took a severe blow this morning when Roger Hawkins lost his valiant battle for life. It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that I tell you our friend, Roger Hawkins passed away at 1:45 this morning; Tuesday, January 18.

Roger and his wife, Jean were Great and Loyal friends of country music in and all around the Kansas City area. Together, they operated a very popular and well-known web site for Country Music. MO-KAN OPRY.COM has long been the GO TO web site to find out the happenings in Country Music.

Until his failing health forced a slow-down, Roger and Jean traveled around the western Missouri and eastern Kansas area attending the country music shows promoted on his site; often attending four or more different shows in a week. On the day after each of these visits a complete and detailed synopsis of the experience would appear on MO-KAN OPRY.COM and then it was on to the next show.

His determination to keep going in spite of his problems should be an inspiration to all of us.

I personally can attest to his kindness and generosity. He was always available with help and advice for me, a near stranger to him, as I struggled to get our own web site up and running.

Now, Roger has gone on to a better place where he will have no more pain and suffering.

Come Saturday night, I bet Roger will be in the center of the front row at that Big Grand Ole Opry in the Sky and before the night is over he will be having a one on one visit with one of his beloved Country Music superstars of yesteryear.

Roger My Friend, you will be missed by many but never forgotten by any!!
May You Rest In Peace

A memorial Service will be held at a date and place to be announced.
