It all began on Friday evening, September 2. The band was at Riverfront Park in DeSoto,Kansas at 6:00PM for entertainment during the annual DeSoto Days celebration. The heat was vicious at show time, the thermometer was reading well over 100 degrees as we started playing in the blazing sun. The band played for a little over an hour before another band took over after us.

My wife and I journeyed to the Knights of Columbus hall in Lawrence Kansas on Saturday evening to watch and listen as Larry Dean, Gordon Riley and John Malone joined Fred Uzell and his son, Pat(the KC Outlaws band) as they provided the music for a dance at the hall. It was a very good show with a good selection of music. Larry provided most of the vocals with the help of a lovely lady that I had
not seen before, Miss Sue Lynn proved to be a very fine entertainer.

We were back at the Riverfront Park for a Community Church Service under the tent on Sunday Morning. That was a beautiful service and the band played several gospel songs during the service. Everyone present appeared to really enjoy our music. We were treated to a wonderful potluck lunch after the service.

Then on Labor Day, (Monday) afternoon we were invited to a private fish fry by one of the bands good, faithful friends. It was a wonderful time and as usual I ate way too much but the fish and everything else was sooo Good!!

That brings us to our regular Tuesday evening show at the BK LOUNGE located in the Burger King restaurant at 95 & Quivira in Lenexa.

Of course the stranger Creek Band opened the show with the familiar theme authored by our amazing lead guitar player, Gordon Riley and titled "Gordon's Boogie #1". Larry Dean immediately moved into a rousing rendition of "Alabama Jubilee' followed with Vern Gosdin's big hit "Set 'Em Up Joe".

Fred Uzell put his magic fingers to work on the Steel Guitar with "Columbus Stockade Blues" and "End of the Line". He was followed by our own Marvin Bredemeier playing Glenn Miller's "Jersey Bounce" followed with the beautiful "Tennessee Waltz". Next up was Gordon with Bill Doggett's line dance number, "Honky Tonk". Dave Purcell followed Gordon with Freddy Fender's hit "Since I met You Baby" and Willie's "Why Should I Have To Choose".

We were then treated to a unique version of Gordon singing "I didn't know God made Honky Tonk Angels" and answered by Mary Bichelmeyer singing the song that made Kitty Wells a big star, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" followed by Patsy Cline's hit "Crazy Arms".

Garry Bichelmeyer came to the microphone to close the half with Vince Gill's "Nobody Answered" and "Seminole Wind".

After the break, Larry Dean opened with a line dancers favorite "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and George Strait's "Tears on the Jukebox". It was Fred Uzell's turn then playing "Boot Heel Drag".

Jerome Oberle was called up with his all-button accordion to play "Pennsylvania Polka" followed with "Down Yonder" and finished wih "The Missouri Waltz". The always popular Annie Little was called on next to sing "Love Again" and "I Love You Honey". Our final special guest, Bud Markle came up to sing Willie's "Remember Me" and Buck Owens' "A-11".

Larry Dean returned one more time to perform my wife's favorite, Mel McDaniel's hit "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On". Dave Purcell came back one more time to close the show with Willie's "Blue Eyes Cryin' In the Rain", Bobby Bare's "Marie Lavaux" and "Help Me Make It Through The Night" by Willie Nelson.

Next Thursday, September 15 will be time once again for dinner and dancing at the Grinter Barn. Be sure to join us there at 6:00PM for dinner and music at 6:30 PM. Only $8.00 gets you a delicious one course dinner and country music with the proceeds going to the "Friends of Grinter" to assist in the upkeep of the historic site.

Don't forget that The Stranger Creek Band will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lawrence for a night of dancing. This large hall is located on the east edge of Lawrence as you come into town on hiway 10. They have a huge dance floor and plenty of comfortable seating at tables on the dance floor edge.

We urge everyone to come out and have a great time with us at one of our shows.Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-76075898095188611762011-05-20T03:47:00.006-05:002011-05-20T04:28:23.372-05:00MAY 19, 2011
GRINTER BARN JAMBOREE

Those of you who were not at the GRINTER BARN JAMBOREE last night missed out on a superb show. We were treated to an amazing display of talent with FRED UZELL and FRANKIE KAYE playing their dueling Steel Guitars. The last time we saw them together was approximately a year ago at the Grinter.

I was able to talk briefly with FRANKIE about his stint with COWBOY COPAS and his band. It appeared to be a high point in his life. He told me it was in 1951 and he was there for almost a year. He loved the entire experience saying he had made many friends in Country Music. To name a few; he talked proudly of being friends with Hank Williams Sr. after finding out they both loved horses. Others he named were George Morgan and Little Jimmy Dickens. It would really be a time to remember for his entire life.

As usual, the band put on a great show and the good sized crowd really seemed to enjoy the evening.

Please keep LAURENCE KELTNER in your thoughts and prayers. LAURENCE had a neck surgery a few weeks ago and his recovery has been slower than expected. We certainly hope to see him and BARB back on our dance floor soon!!

Our next GRINTER BARN JAMBOREE will be on June 16, I will give you the menu as soon as we have been notified.

After the wonderful success we had last month with the "ROCK & ROLL" show, it was decided to have one every three months. Watch for the next one coming up at the GRINTER BARN JAMBOREE on Thursday, July 21, 2011. I'm sure you won't want to miss this!

Hopefully, we will see everyone at the BK LOUNGE next Tuesday.

Stay safe and well until then.

Photos below:
Top -- FRANKIE KAYE
Bottom -- FRED UZELL

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX-3h3V9igIrftk0Z3k8FpbFG8ndCofgOmMWA42IB96zgSbbbMOIhpX-sUh2X8qSXhzFvgRFI7l4Adh_wr9Zuobk0OVyvPmNG8uhmJ7hsa90SDJ8-MJwLRGnOZinvMCk4ovX0x_56WZaw/s320/Frankie+Kaye++05-19-2011++Grinter+-+Copy.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608725109462315730" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSf4QCUAZYQfndF-Kj5O8cb9WVA9QTHAMK_MyB95UveuP7f1C626T25YhIvs3Qj-NmnQfRBiQSOLkugLT2QfB3YKcyAFXdrfrQT50OFvDM_SR9IZnIX2uyXte0IXCHDLwHLUCPglPddU/s320/Fred+Uzell+-+05-19-2011++Grinter.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608725345597069714" />

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-90833966090333295652011-05-18T15:41:00.005-05:002011-05-19T10:53:37.112-05:00MAY 18, 2011

I HAVE JUST RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT GLORIA BEATTY HAS A KNEE INFECTION. It was a great show with a great crowd on hand to enjoy it. What a wealth of wonderful talent we had.

The first one to drop in was our friend, ARNIE JOHNSON. It had been several months since we saw him. He came front and center during the first half and turned in his usually dazzling performance with two or three songs. He returned in the second half for three more great numbers.

BILL CLARK made a couple of different appearances with some superb music on his harmonicas. He is always a pleasure to listen to.

ANNIE LITTLE got up and captivated the crowd with two of her favorites from one of her CD's. Her CD"s are a great display of her talents and very enjoyable, if you get the chance be sure to pick one up.

15-year old LUKE MORALES, a protege of GORDON RILEY'S, showed his talent on the guitar with a great performance of "House of the Rising Sun" and followed it by backing LARRY DEAN as he sang Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". Great job LUKE!!!.

In addition to the pain and discomfort I told you last week that LAURENCE KELTNER was experiencing, they had to make a trip to the Emergency Room later in the week where he was treated for bronchitis. In addition to all that, their Granddaughter suffered a miscarriage. Laurence and Barb and their family need all the support we can give them; please remember them in your prayers and I'm sure some cards would be appreciated. Their address is in last weeks blog below this one.

Our very special guests at the Grinter Barn Jamboree this Thursday, May 19 will be two great performers. FRED UZELL with his Dobro and FRANKIE KAYE with the Steel Guitar. The last time they both joined us was about a year ago and we saw one of the best shows we had in a long time. FRANKIE played in COWBOY COPAS' band for a time many years ago. You won't want to miss this show and also enjoy the Enchilada Casserole the Ladies of Grinter are going to serve before the show.

Again I owe DAVE & JEAN HIGHTOWER a MILLION THANKS for taking the pictures for me. Everyone must have been working in their lawns and gardens on this beautiful day. But by showtime the Lounge was filled to capacity with an enthusiastic and boisterous crowd of fans; some new and many regulars.

We were honored to have the wonderfully talented FRED UZELL with his Steel Guitar joining the band. He is an outstanding musician and always well received. He also brought along his son, PAT UZELL who very ably filled in on the electric bass for MARY while she mingled and visited with some of her family members attending the show from out of town. It's always a pleasure to have PAT join us.

It was good to see ART COVEY back from his annual trek to Arizona for the winter. He sat in with his mandolin all evening and performed three or four songs for our pleasure. Once again I did not have time or the ability to get the names of the songs that our great guests performed tonight. I guess I am going to have to hire someone to do that for me.

JEROME OBERLE brought his all-button accordion tonight and performed "BEER BARREL POLKA" and played for DAVE PURCELL while he sang.

ANNIE LITTLE also asked JEROME to play for her while she sang one song and she stayed and sang another with the band.

Finally, our friend RON FINE entertained us with "BUILD ME A CABIN IN THE CORNER OF GLORY LAND". He is such a fabulous entertainer, it is always good to see him.

It was so good to see a great friend of the STRANGER CREEK BAND come in tonight. JEAN HAWKINS joined us for the first time in a few weeks. We have missed her so much. Hopefully she will feel like coming more often now.

We are sorry to have a report that LAURENCE KELTNER is not recovering from his recent neck surgery as hoped. BARB says that he has a lot of pain and discomfort. Evidently he can't lay comfortably to sleep because of the pain in his neck. Hopefully he will get better quick, we want to see them back on the dance floor at the BK LOUNGE again soon. I'm sure he would appreciate a lot of cards and letters. Their address is;

LAURENCE KELTNER
7019 WARWICK
SHAWNEE MISSION KS

Of course we will be back at the BK LOUNGE next Tuesday, May 17 and at the GRINTER BARN on Thursday, May 19. The Ladies of Grinter will be serving ENCHILADA CASSEROLE for dinner. We went out to TONGANOXIE,KS for a great show at ANNIE'S COUNTRY JUBILEE. Not only MARVIN BREDEMEIER, who has played with ANNIE'S BAND for a number of years performed; three other regulars from THE STRANGER CREEK BAND were on the billing and did us up proud. DAVE PURCELL, GARRY BICHELMEYER and LARRY DEAN INMAN each were called to the stage and sang two songs. Remarkably, each was called back for an encore. Then in the second half GARRY and LARRY performed a couple of duets including "WE'RE IN THE JAILHOUSE NOW". After some singing and joking, DAVE was called back out to join them and the three of them were enthusiastically received performing GARRY'S "NORTHERN STAR". Outstanding entertainment!!!

ANNIE also introduced a lady she met only a few days ago who lives in TONGANOXIE, LISA PERKINS did a wonderful job singing WYNONA'S "MOMMA HE'S CRAZY" and joined by GARRY sang "AMAZING GRACE". LISA has a great voice and I'm confident that we will be hearing more from her in the future.

Great show by the entire group at ANNIE'S. If you have not yet seen her show, it is well worth the short drive to TONGANOXIE to take it in.

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-19854466993698504972011-05-05T01:41:00.003-05:002011-05-05T01:50:09.679-05:00MAY 5, 2011

Barb Keltner reports that Laurence had his surgery on Wednesday as scheduled. It had been predicted to last 3 hours but went well and was finished in 2 1/2 hours. Next Monday, May 9 will mark six years since the Stranger Creek Band made their first appearance at our present home; the BK Lounge.

The band put on their usual great performance to an enthusiastic crowd of new fans as well as the regulars that join us every week. We are always so grateful to see them all.

The first special guest to step up and perform for us was Jerome Oberle with his button accordion. He was outstanding with his renditions of "Just Because" followed with "Lady Of Spain".Jerome came back in the second set with "Slow Poke".

Annie Little entertained us with her usually outstanding performance singing "Somewhere Between" and closed the program with a song the band had never played before. "Everyday With Jesus" came out with a flawless performance.

Let's please keep our loyal fan, Dave Rorabaugh in our thoughts and prayers. Dave suffered what was described as a light stroke this past weekend. He is recovering well and was to get home from the Hospital today but will not be able to return to the BK Lounge for a time. We all look forward to seeing him return soon.

We hope everyone plans to attend the regular Saturday night show at Annie's Country Jubilee in Tonganoxie this Saturday at 7:30 PM. Our own Larry Dean, Garry Bichelmeyer and Dave Purcell will be making guest appearances with Annie and her great group.

We hope to see everyone back at the BK Lounge again next Tuesday. Until then stay safe and well!!

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-1472624702420668532011-04-30T18:46:00.003-05:002011-04-30T19:06:18.719-05:00APRIL 30, 2011
DESOTO KS "SPRING FLING"

The Stranger Creek Band was in DeSoto Kansas for the annual Spring Fling from about 10:30 this morning until nearly 2:00 this afternoon. They performed at the corner of 84th and Wea Streets in front of a former restaurant. As usual they put on a good show with the music flowing very smoothly from one song quickly to another. There were many compliments paid to us about the quality of the program, every one seemed to be enjoying it. There was also a lot of interaction between the band members and people coming by to listen for a spell. There were several of our fans from the BK Lounge that came around and some that sat down and enjoyed several songs with us.

The weather was beautiful, several booths were sat up along 84th street some serving food and some with craft and other merchandise to sell.

It was a fun day and we look forward to returning next year. Also, we will be returning to DeSoto for the River Fest on Friday September 2. Watch this web site for more information about that.

We hope to see everyone back at the BK Lounge next Tuesday. I sincerely apologize for neglecting to get these things in sooner.

Everyone please keep Jay Holmgren in your thoughts and prayers. In about two weeks from now he will begin 6 weeks of Chemo therapy. We all certainly wish all the best for Jay during this difficult time.

I just returned this morning from a visit to Mary Lou Yulich who is still a patient at the Sharon Lane Nursing Home at 10315 Johnson Drive in Shawnee for the therapy following surgery on her ankle. She has been moved to room 304A now. She looks really good and is in very good spirits. We had a nice, long visit, she sends her love to all her friends at the BK Lounge and Grinter House. She is grateful for all of the many cards and personal visits. She doesn't know how much longer she will be there but acknowledges that she still has a long way to go. It's certainly a great feeling not be able to see any empty chairs. The crowd was very enthusiastic and obviously ready for a good show.

A good many members of our audience is also very good at multi-tasking. There are several tables where the folks are playing cards or checkers as they listen to the music they appear to enjoy so much.

We also look forward to some fine music from our guests who drop in each week. Last night was no exception. First up was Jerome Oberle with his squeeze box accordion. He pleased everyone with "Beer Barrel Polka" and a great tune recorded and made famous many years ago by Skeeter Davis. "I've Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know About Him" was especially well received by the fans.

Annie Little sang her favorite Garry Bichelmeyer penned "Why Did I Ever". It can be found on her CD along many more wonderful songs.

Annie was joined by Jay Holmgren for a rousing rendition of "I Saw The Light", we need to get Jay up to sing for us more often, he puts on a fine performance.

In the second half we were entertained with a fine performance as usual from our friend Ron Fine. He sang "Now and Then There's A Fool Such As I" and "Build Me A Cabin In The Corner Of Glory Land". It is always a pleasure to hear his wonderful voice.

Jerome Oberle came back up and joined the band for the instrumental "Harbor Lights".

We want to remind everyone to join the Stranger Creek Band at the annual "Spring Fling" in DeSoto, Kansas on Saturday, April 30. We will be performing at 84th & Wea Streets from about 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. It should be a fun day, please come on out.

We hope to see everyone back at the BK Lounge again next Tuesday.

Everyone stay safe and well until we see you again!!

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-4177685531381198392011-04-22T12:49:00.005-05:002011-04-22T13:21:01.719-05:00APRIL 21, 2011
GRINTER BARN JAMBOREE

WHAT A SHOW!! Our "ROCK & ROLL" special wildly exceeded greatest expectations. I thought the barn would burst at the seams, there was barely any standing room left.
I don't know how many great fans came out but everyone there seemed to have a really good time. I believe there was only one song performed that was not from the '50's; that was Garry's "Northern Star" sang by Dave Purcell. He said he had a special request for it. The Sloppy Jo and Root Beer Float really hit the spot.

We will return to the Grinter Barn for a Jamboree on Thursday, May 19. Please plan to join us then for another great show. I will post the menu as soon as I get it.

The Stranger Creek Band will perform at the Spring Fling in DeSoto KS from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 30.

Also, start making your plans to journey with us to the Wahoo Music Fest in Wahoo Nebraska on June 23 - 26. The faster the song, the better they like it. Sometimes Warren, (85 years young) gets tired and needs to take a short break and Ginger usually has someone else waiting for the next dance. She dances every fast dance and sometimes a slow one. When told it was amazing the way she can dance all night, she quickly replied "I don't know why, I'm only 96 years old!'. They love to rock & roll and Ginger loves to twirl and spin around the floor. When I asked her how often they danced, she answered "he will tell you 6 times a week but we often make it 7 nights a week." She plans to dance on her 100Th birthday in 4 years. We should all be inspired by the enthusiasm and joy of life these two kids show us all!

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-73067286779093634422011-04-20T01:15:00.003-05:002011-04-20T01:40:17.983-05:00APRIL 20, 2011
BK LOUNGE

It was not quite a capacity crowd as we opened on this chilly evening but it was still a large group that gathered for the band.

The show opened with a first time special guest that had to leave for an appointment. Bob Norris started with "Poor Little Fool" then a self-penned number he had recently written to sing at his brother-in-laws funeral. "Jerry's Song" was a beautiful song and well received by the fans.

The band is going back into the recording studio tomorrow night to continue working on their new CD and tonight they sang (or practiced) some of the songs they intend to record. I really look forward to this CD, I have heard several of the songs on it and was present at one recording session. I think it is going to be a good one.

Soon after the second half opened, Annie Little stepped up and did a wonderful job of singing "Could I have this Dance for the rest of my life" and followed it with "Remember Me". She came back later and closed the show with "He Grew the Tree".

Congratulations to fiddler Marvin and Sug Bredemeier. Marvin announced they were proud Great-Grandparents of a little girl named Bella; born yesterday.

Several people asked about Mary Lou Yulich, I will try to get in to visit with her in the next day or so. Watch this blog and I will let you know as soon as I get down to check on her.

Don't forget to join us this Thursday, April 21 at the Grinter Barn Jamboree featuring our "Rock & Roll" show. Once again we opened to a standing room only crowd with little standing room left. The weather has been beautiful and the crowd, tired of winter, is very enthusiastic and receptive to the good music and "Good Time" atmosphere.

We hadn't seen one of our favorite guests, Larry Smith, in a long time. Tonight it was a great joy to see him come in the door. He didn't disappoint anyone when he sang several songs to the great delight of the crowd.

Ron Fine's performance was outstanding as usual. He just doesn't seem to ever have a bad night. We always enjoy him so much!

Darrell Phillips came in and gave Mary a break on the electric bass. He does a fine job and we welcome him. Also, Mary had fun on the dance floor while the others were working. She even enjoyed a dance with husband, Garry, to the delight of the audience.

We had a report from Annie Little that Jay Holmgren had a surgical procedure yesterday which went well and he was home resting this evening. She reported that he plans to be back with us next week.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Fred & Mrs Uzell on the death of her brother.

My wife and I stopped for a brief visit with Mary Yulich on our way to the BK Lounge this afternoon. Mary is in Sharon Lane Nursing Home recovering from surgery on her ankle. She is looking very good and in good spirits. She says she is getting a lot of hard therapy but gaining strength every day. I asked if she had any messages for the fans and she said to tell everyone she loves them and hopes to be back soon.

Don't forget that next week, April 21, is our special "Rock & Roll" program at the Grinter Barn Jamboree. The ladies will serve Sloppy Jo, Potato chips and Root Beer Floats beginning at 6:00 PM. The Rock & Roll music will begin at 6:30 and I am sure it will be a lot of fun. We hope you join us. The band always seems to respond to a wonderful group like this and tonight was certainly no exception.

Mr Fred Uzell, the outstanding Dobro and Steel Guitar player was filling in with the band for Marvin Bredemeier who had another engagement. Fred did a wonderful job with his steel guitar and Marvin arrived at about intermission and joined the rest for the remainder of the show.

We were joined by the State President of the Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers,Pickers and Singers, Mr Greg Hermon. Greg stepped up and sang a couple of songs. What a wonderful, Baritone voice he has. Most of us could have listened to him all night.

Jerome Oberle entertained us as usual with his all-button accordion, he is always well received especially playing polkas.

Ron Fine is always a welcome guest in the line-up. He is especially good with gospel music and enjoyed by everyone.

A friend of Marvin's from south Texas, Mr Jim King came up and sang three songs for us. "Your Cheatin' Heart", "For the Good Times" and a rousing version of "Lone Star Beer and Sweet Taters" I believe was the name of it. He is a great performer and we certainly hope to see him back again.

Annie Little performed a couple of songs including her favorite, a Garry Bichelmeyer penned "Why Did I Ever".

We got a report on Mary Lou Yulich. She had her ankle surgery on Friday and is still very weak from it. They have moved her to Sharon Lane Nursing Home located at 10315 Johnson Dr in Shawnee Ks 66203. She is in room 302B and her phone number is 913-387-3527. She will not be able to put her weight on her foot for two months and she is too weak to use crutches or hop on one foot to move around. She is very weak and faces a slow recovery. I am sure she would appreciate any cards and phone calls.

Fred Uzell had a death in the family so Larry Smith will be our guest this Tuesday in his place. Our prayers and sympathy to Fred and his Family during this time of sorrow.

Again, Many thanks to Jean Hightower for the photos below:

On the Left are a couple of our newest fans: Warren and Ginger (she is 96 years old) certainly enjoyed the music. I think Ginger was on the dance floor for nearly every dance and could have danced all night. On the right, Warren had to sit down for a few minutes so Ginger got a new partner. Way to go folks!!!

Bottom left: Greg Hermon performed for us.

Bottom Right: Jim King exhibited his great talent for the crowd.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSgNrKTEYK4X3O884A6NMU3ZLuj5viwHW3OViS0N_qaOrvFajgorD4BNSqQPPK1rhxXMbAKxffnnuuz9trFgfOm67p1AjnLhgEfpIAt7OiTrnQ23zFmJ9579we131lJ_J6GmDrJJZcKV4/s200/04-05-11_003%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592417327383148210" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIg1C5WbIpw_e6B0rQeJI9AGnmz9rgxnVyI1vblO6-3A9sY9pqI98B5ahRKqQX2QKm-V9JFeCxwwpBhqQm-O6lyI1t6qIvnLM2Bl3LiTheeQ2dtZIVCmiuh4F3XZUEozn-xi18DJRLI5U/s200/04-05-11_006%255B2%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592417517550913890" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRyGdSeDBIE_gRf2oIGPYSl-dz5OAwIJSgaNAAZxLQj6ybKgGauovDz4yomqkVzZrCpZe_UBLGTuiIa4Z9wuoAHonXHEOLNt_yRFn4eZTaRE4Ug18vOOoavXAeoGxJ591_yIgiYNwb0HQ/s200/04-05-11_011%255B2%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592417831017928914" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqW7UC5COjpbLuLy83kBT-XolexGUjL7eANL-4aXBEGAmduhFzpru_gf9B_XhTmTP3RbhKQrqCTB_d2qWSEt0V-ar-EzSHxa5IFODjhiJrSYaLXXjTJHfpE-t1hUmm_FoRr4g7x5-3INA/s200/04-05-11_014%255B2%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592418006649942386" />

DON'T WE ALL WISH I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THESE PICTURES LINED UP AND IN PROPER ORDER?? The band always puts on a strong performance for a full house and last night was certainly no exception. The crowd responded in kind, very enthusiastically all evening.

Our first guest was Jerome Oberle and his button accordion, everyone loves to hear him play a polka on it and he usually accommodates their wishes.

Then, Ron Fine came up and entertained with his great voice as he always does.

Our third guest was Annie Little, she has a beautiful voice and is always well received.

I only wish I knew the names to all the songs the band and guests perform and had time to write them all down along with my responsibilities on the sound system.
I have to apologize for not being able to furnish names of all the wonderful music we hear at each show.

It was great to see John Macek back after his recent neck surgery. He seems to be recovering very well and was really happy to be back, too.

Please keep one of our most loyal fans in your thoughts and prayers. Mary Lou Yulich will undergo surgery on Friday. Watch this blog for updates as soon as I get them. We will certainly be thinking about her.

We will see everyone back at the BK Lounge next Tuesday. Be Safe!!

Several months ago a good fan, Jean Hightower brought us a poem she had written to be put on this blog. I am embarrassed to admit that I lost it. Finally, I confessed to Jean what had happened and asked her to bring me another copy which she did last night. Before I lose it again, I am reprinting it below. The beautiful, warm weather had every one in a good mood in spite of a storm watch for the evening that never did materialize.

Sitting in with the band was Dobro player, Fred Uzell. Fred is a great Dobro and Steel Guitar player who appears regularly on Annie's Country Jubilee every Saturday night in Tonganoxie KS. He drew great applause on every number he played for us.

Jerome Oberle came up and performed two or three numbers on his all button accordion, he does a wonderful job of playing it and is always well received by the fans.

We were excited to see Jim Winter, another performer from Annie's come in and he agreed to step up and close out the first half with his magnificent voice. The audience certainly wanted more and were promised he would return in the second half.

After the intermission, we were honored to have Amanda Brock join us and perform three songs. She has beautiful voice and her singing was appreciated by everyone. We certainly hope she and all of our other guests come back again soon.

We are informed that John Macek is progressing well from his recent surgery. He is still in Mid-American Rehabilitation Hospital and will very probably come home on Monday. If you want to talk to John, you can get phone information from the blog below.

Pictures below: From the top - Fred Uzell; Jim Winter; Larry with his new hair-do
and Amanda Brock.
A big Thank You to Jean Hightower for taking the pictures!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkegELIZaqqiRblTQCjqvgi33YVA_6ObQpg5uZIdclE1WQ20TrIDqFYF6v9Sik-_UlvnH3i9MF0ZVmMFj3iN7zDbCdBDA-OfDJ9cag6XnmjBuonSMF_Onnw_2n7o4NYe-9Tq6AZOhCwPk/s320/BK_Lounge_014%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587240445246174770" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilH0MWHxQMAl-NiRu5hgeXa3sdg_H8qGvl3HpUlDsKTtTnB-41DqFDC1YGHumUhxHvrikYz482ESHBRbu1jLCR-0eAzal8oaWskZvK0EkhiIL8q4GK754O4aIL_xnz1pzMtxjWreMV9aI/s320/BK_Lounge_004%255B1%255D%255B2%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587240332080218546" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFYejHehsA2HyWkM8hko-TBNFBXOwNtILmvYIvfcxrQX5mnLSA62SrgL7rCifYS3yoCcot1MaZDutoGc1KZQu-9Q7e-mKPxZ2DKg75Fr86mmyBYnRWwUHic0KWop0OBjWyNfsb07F7qus/s320/BK_Lounge_008%255B1%255D%255B2%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587240921305009698" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9XOPFyVlHQf3riHXqzTnY_OaEuXRn1gEOjjHrfJa28jy3C-51NBpDm-HjuLGz0KzoODyCCPvWATPn373dcOCEKd3-Pi891_DSU_BC2WEfmPYngrRLhqLCeodzfKFNhRvvANNDiHimfpI/s320/BK_Lounge_024%255B1%255D%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587240812905997602" />

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-73444573407642464552011-03-20T11:33:00.002-05:002011-03-20T11:40:26.547-05:00MARCH 20, 2011

OUR LOYAL FAN; JOHN MICEK IS IN MID-AMERIC REHABILITATION HOSPITAL, 5701 WEST 110TH ST, LEAWOOD KS. Many new faces as well as the regulars were in to watch and listen to the band. New guests are always welcome and we were so glad to see them last night. The dancers seemed to enjoy themselves, too.

There was a lot of green in honor of St. Patrick's day. The ladies of Grinter Place Friends prepared a delicious dinner of Corn & Beef & Irish potatoes and told us to pretend it was Corned Beef & Cabbage.

The band performed several Irish songs especially during the first half of the show. The entire band was present including Dave "Willie" Purcell ; they all did a fine job and those fans present had a great time.

I want to remind all of you to remember the special "50's Rock & Roll" show next month on April 21. Come dressed as you would have dressed in the 50's including poodle skirts, petticoats. For the men, duck tails, tee shirts and plenty of Brylcreem, if you can still buy it. The ladies will serve Sloppy Jo's, Chips and Root Beer floats. It promises to be an unforgettable evening. Only $8.00 for the dinner and show with proceeds going to the "Friends of Grinter Place".

Also, I have been informed that our special guest at the BK Lounge next Tuesday will be the outstanding talented regular from Annie's Country Jubilee will be Dobro player Fred Uzell. The weather was beautiful and I am pretty sure that had a great deal to do with the wonderful turn-out.

It was great to see "Miss Jean" Hawkins come in, we have really missed her. I saw her busy taking notes so perhaps she will have a blog on her "MO-KAN OPRY" site soon. Be sure to check that fantastic site out the first chance you get.

As usual, the band put on a great show and we had a wonderful group of guests show up to help entertain us.

The first of the group, Annie Little lent her beautiful voice to a couple of songs. Ron Fine stepped up next and filled the building with his fantastic Tenor voice. He and Annie are both seasoned, fantastic singers and the fans enjoy both of them immensely.

Jerome Oberle filled the dance floor playing two or three polkas on his all button accordion. He and Marvin with the fiddle sure make some great music.

Jess Richardson from the Westline Opry in Westline Missouri was next. It is always such a pleasure to see and hear him. He is a fantastic entertainer with a great talent. I, for one, am going to get down to Westline and watch his show the first chance I get. I hope many of you do the same.

The last of our fine guest performers was Scott Gilmore, we hadn't seen him in a long, long time. Of course, his little son, Matt had his guitar and played along with the band all evening. He is going to be a star someday!! And Little Kylie danced all evening, I'll bet her legs are sore this morning.

Don't forget that we will be at the Grinter Barn Jamboree Thursday evening to celebrate St Patrick's day. I hope you all join us. The Ladies of Grinter will serve Corn & Beef & Irish Potatoes for dinner. You can pretend you are eating Corned Beef & Cabbage in honor of St. Patty's day. Only $8.00 for the dinner and a great country music show.

Finally, we hope to see everyone back at the BK Lounge next Tuesday.

Everyone stay safe and well until we see you again.

************************************************************************************* Soundmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12212381058452297147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7254657759491277309.post-32881866414812322262011-03-08T23:02:00.008-06:002011-03-14T03:07:14.250-05:00MARCH 8, 2011
BK LOUNGE

In spite of a nasty, cold rain this evening our faithful fans turned out in force for the regular Tuesday night show. They were not disappointed indeed.

Our very special guest was a regular on the Saturday night Annie's Country Jubilee show. Everyone enjoyed the amazing Dobro playing of Fred Uzell. He is such a talented musician and I for one, really enjoy listening to Dobro music. Also joining us; Fred's son, Pat Uzell did a very fine job of playing Mary's solid bass for several songs during the second half.

In the first half, Annie Little joined the band for three or four well-received songs. As always the audience really appreciates Annie's beautiful voice and singing ability.

Early in the second half, Ron Fine took his place with the band and as usual grabbed the audience attention while he performed flawlessly for us. He is an outstanding entertainer and always much appreciated.

We hope you all come in again next Tuesday for our regular show at the BK Lounge and don't forget that Thursday, March 17 is the Grinter Barn Jamboree. The ladies will be serving Corn, Beef & Irish Potatoes; they say we should pretend we are having Corned Beef & Cabbage in honor of St. Patrick's day. Only $8,00 gets the dinner plus the regular show by the Stranger Creek Band.

We hope you are making plans for our "Rock & Roll" show at the regular Grinter Barn Jamboree on April 21. Plan to dress for the occasion of dancing and listening to the Rock & Roll music of the 50's & 60's. The ladies of Grinter are planning to serve Sloppy Jo sandwiches, chips and root beer floats in honor of the occasion. It's going to be a fun filled evening and we look forward to you all joining us. I bet the ladies have some surprises planned for us, too.

Below: Fred Uzell.
